Description

Little Pieces of Heaven is a community art showcase celebrating creative expression. It showcases artwork that our community partners have created with the help of The Art of Elysium volunteer artists. The works reflect the areas of fashion design, film and theatre, music and movement, and visual arts. Little Piece of Heaven opens Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Midnight Mission. This event is free and open to the public.

Visual Communication Archives is one of the largest photographic and moving image archives on Asian Pacific experiences in America.  Created by a group of artists and filmmakers to organize and empower communities through media, Visual Communications is the nation’s first media arts organization dedicated to the honest and accurate portrayal of Asian American and Pacific Islander peoples and communities.  The VC Archives is a story of people in motion, reflecting imagination and adventure, desperation and courage, minds and bodies leaping and struggling towards new possibilities and futures.

Description

As part of the forced incarceration of over 125,000 American citizens of Japanese descent during World War II, filmmaker Emiko Omori explores her family’s experience at the Poston American concentration camp. Fifty years later, she and other former inmates reflect on the personal and political consequences of the camps, offering a poetic and illuminating view of a troubling chapter in American history.

 Women In Film (WIF) is excited to host FROM IDEA TO SCREEN- EMILY GROOMS, featuring works (episodes, short films, scenes, features) created by the class of the 2024 Fellowships.

A virtual event is schedule for Thursday, May 22, from 6:00 to 7:40 p.m. and in-person event is scheduled Tuesday, June 3, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at WIF Headquarters.

Each screening will include a hands-on review of the script or other artistic process material. Followed by a moderated conversation on process and expertise, and about experiences breaking into the industry.

This is event is free and open to the public.
