The Acadmy Museum presents the Film Series Beware the Elements! Natural Disasters on Film

Following a summer of record-breaking heatwaves, extreme wildfires, historic floods, and a truly unprecedented “hurriquake,” we find the perilous realities of climate change increasingly impacting our daily lives. This screening series considers natural disasters through our planet’s primary elements—earth, wind, water, and fire—and seeks to highlight key moments in the history of the disaster film genre as a source of entertainment and portrayal of science, and as a tool to raise our collective consciousness about science-based solutions to the mounting global climate crisis. Levitt Pavilion Los Angeles (Levitt LA) is celebrating its 17th annual concert series by presenting 10 world-class performances that are all FREE and open to everyone. The concert series runs Saturdays from June 22 through August 31, 2024.

For 17 years, Levitt LA has been creating a sense of community through music. This summer, they will once again showcase the diverse cultural landscape of Los Angeles with a fantastic lineup of artists, transforming MacArthur Park into a vibrant and energized urban sonic oasis.

The concerts will be held outdoors, under the stars, with the stunning backdrop of LA’s skyline at MacArthur Park.

Khalil Nelson is your host for a guided tour of Bob Baker Marionette (BBMT) Theater on the occasion of the Theater’s 60th Anniversary and as it prepares to preview scenes from its first original production in 40 Years!

Tours include backstage, our fabrication workshop, and music and visual archives! Khalil will share the world of BBMT through the lens of the creation of our new scenes, as part of the current show and in preparation for a full production in 2025, Choo Choo Revue! Don’t miss it!
