Description
This moving, seminal, visual arts project was conceptualized and developed by the Arts Center Director, Rosie Lee Hooks who commissioned 13 artists from the community to use shovels as a canvas to honor the legacy of our ancestors. Each of the world-renowned, master artists who accepted the challenge have a history of building arts institutions in Watts and the greater Los Angeles community.

Join us for a printmaking workshop with Nguyen Ly of LYNK Collective, in conjunction with Material Recovery: Printmaking with Recycled Materials, on view at Angels Gate Cultural Center January 20 – March 23, 2024.

This workshop is also available in a session on February 17th.

As this is a limited capacity event, registration via Eventbrite is required. There is a $10 non-refundable registration fee to offset the cost of materials. For questions email annie@angelsgateart.org.

Join us for our monthly meeting where we will discuss all things zine, have a co-working space for zine projects, discover new zine making techniques, make zines together in workshops, and cultivate a supportive zine community. Please feel free to bring a zine project you’re working on, and/or any zine making supplies you would like to use. We will provide basic zine making supplies (paper, writing and drawing tools, scissors, bone folders) and ideas so no need to worry if you don’t have your own! $10 Donation upon entry is greatly appreciated, however no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Donations go to keeping programming like this and our after school youth arts programs at CFAER accessible!

The Howard Instrument Collection of the Watts Towers Arts Center is a permanent, revolving installation of musical instruments from around the world. It was assembled by Dr. Joseph H. Howard and donated to the Center in 1989. The collection at the Watts Towers Arts Center, about a quarter of Howard’s total collection, consists of 144 instruments, the majority of which are non- western.
