About Justice In Our Barrios:
Justice In Our Barrios, Paz Al Mundo: A Moratorium on War and Carrying the Legacy Forward is a historiographic exhibition chronicling the rise of Mexican American empowerment through multi-generational, intercultural, and grassroots movement building towards peace and social justice in the United States from the 1920’s to the present. Documented from the archives and experiences of Chicano Moratorium leader and activist, Rosalio Muñoz, the exhibition underscores the importance of asking, “How can we build people power to bring about the changes needed in our world?”
In addition to the historical timeline, the exhibition showcases new works of art including painting, drawing, photography, and mixed media, that embody the themes of peace, justice, and solidarity. The contemporary collection features work by emerging and established artists, from LHYAC visual art students to renowned , exemplifying the vibrant spirit and rich history of Los Angeles’ resilience and resistance. Each powerful work reflects the Chicano Movement’s legacy and relevance to the global conflicts of today.
