Description

The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) Performing Arts Division (PERF) presents the second annual Language of the Cosmos, a three-day exhibition of performances, multi-media installations, and community workshops inspired by the wonders, sounds, and visuals of the universe. Language of the Cosmos welcomes nine commissioned artists and youth development organizations to share their work and knowledge at Taxco Theatre in Canoga Park—a neighborhood with a long history of supporting the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) space program.

Language of the Cosmos celebrates the intersection of art and science through a partnership with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The nine artists and organizations include: Maya Billig, Richard Cabral, Masha Dowell, Infinite Flow Dance, Reginald B. McKinley, II, Beth Peterson, Gabriel Spera, Amir Whitaker, Zawadi Cultural Collective.

JPL was founded in 1936 and has a rich history of encouraging, cultivating, and nurturing artists. NASA JPL’s scientific exploration of the Earth, solar system, and beyond has served as a resource for artists to unlock creativity and communicate the inspiration of science through nonconventional methods.

The culmination of works will be presented at the Taxco Theatre, 7242 Owensmouth Ave, Canoga Park, CA 91303, Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28, at 7:30 p.m. A youth and family presentation will be on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. Free RSVP at brownpapertickets.com/event/6662426.

Step into the entrancing world of Swan Lake, a masterpiece of classical ballet that has mesmerized audiences for generations with elegant dancing, iconic music, and a timeless tale of love and loss. Boston Ballet’s production follows the Swan Queen Odette and Prince Siegfried in a tale of romance, sorcery, and deceit. The second act, originally choreographed by Lev Ivanov, is historically considered the finest classical choreography for the corps de ballet. The production showcases the technical precision and emotional tonality of the full company.
