Description
Each year, the City of West Hollywood celebrates the artistic contributions of the LGBTQ+ community with its vibrant Arts Festival. This year’s event will begin with two art exhibits, a Vogue ball, a poetry happening, and a Transmasculine comedy show, along with additional arts grant programs, Prism Comics Q-Con, a free concert from GMCLA, and interactive typewriter poetry from Pride Poets.

The OutMuseum is the first LGBTQ+ arts and media virtual museum available free to the public. Home to a combination of rotating and permanent exhibits centering themes, identities, and experiences which celebrate and commemorate the queer and trans communities. Through short film collections, panels and roundtables, oral histories, and other multimedia within our exhibits, this space can foster discussions, increase access to art and information, and, most importantly, speak to histories regularly omitted from the record. This project honors the spirit and talent of George Hoshida, an incarcerated artist who documented life with pencil and brushwork in a series of notebooks he kept between 1942 and 1945. Through examples of Hoshida’s artwork and personal correspondence with his family, this site hopes to provide insight into one individual’s incarceration experience.

Latino Theater Company and Playwrights’ Arena present an epic WWII play. Inspired by the true-life experiences of Ralph J. Preiss, Mix-Mix tells the coming-of-age tale of 13-year-old Rudy Preissman, who escapes Nazi Germany at the age of nine with his family to find safety in the Philippines. Their tropical refuge is upended when Japan invades the islands, forcing the family and their Filipino friends to hide in the heights and depths of sacred Mount Banahao.
