This exhibition features the earliest known photographs of Qandahar, Afghanistan, taken between 1880 and 1881 at the end of the Second Anglo-Afghan War. Today, they offer insights into the region, its local populations, and its rich cultural traditions. Hell-bent on breaking free of his self-perception, Usher, a young, gay, Black writer who hates his day job, writes a musical about a young, gay, Black writer who is writing a musical about a young, gay, Black writer…a strange loop. Usher grapples with desires, identity, and instincts he loves and loathes, all brought to life on stage by a hilarious, straight-talking ensemble.

Spend an afternoon at a special collection of the LA County Library that encompasses academic materials, film, music, novels, magazines, and newspapers. The collection focuses on the Asian American Pacific Islander American experience, with core holdings in history, art, and culture. The center has over 100 titles on microfilm of historical Asian immigrant newspapers published in the US.
