Description

Creating in Community: Fowler at 60 celebrates the sixtieth anniversary of the Fowler Museum at UCLA. As we look back at the research, exhibitions, and public programs of the past sixty years, we recognize that the most joyful and interesting projects have been those created with others. Through these collaborations fresh ideas bloomed, unforeseen challenges and expectations arose, and new connections were forged. Come revisit these extraordinary projects with us, as we bring this spirit of engagement into the future by working with partners to use our building and collections in ever more experimental ways.

Description
Drawing inspiration from foremothers as varied as Agnes Martin, Jane Jacobs, Maria Sibylla Merian, grandmothers, and the countless unnamed women who history has anonymized—four distinguished writers explore topics of gender, art, depression, and grief. Poet Victoria Chang’s new collection With My Back to the World engages the paintings and writings of Agnes Martin, the celebrated abstract artist, in ways that open up new modes of expression. How do we see and how are we seen? Daniela Naomi Molnar’s debut collection Chorus weaves voices of women scientists, poets, sociologists, artists, and activists whose indomitable lives offer lessons for our time. These poets will be joined in conversation by award-winning poet Amy Gerstler and author and literary curator Louise Steinman.

Description
This all-ages, family-friendly cultural festival brings together diverse communities in Los Angeles through the art of kites and a day of joyful connection in this important public green space. Clockshop invites attendees to participate in free arts workshops, enjoy live music, and meet local community organizations to learn about their work in the nearby neighborhoods.

The Kite Festival is designed as a celebration to honor the communities surrounding Los Angeles State Historic Park that fought for and steward this public parkland, recognizing their resilience, cultural histories, and aspirations.

Clockshop encourages attendees to make their own kites or visit the ‘eco-friendly kite options’ section here for suggestions on where to purchase or make kites ahead of the event.

In an effort to limit plastic waste, a kite vendor will not be present at the event and instead, we will provide a very limited number of ready-to-assemble kites on a first-come, first-served basis.

This event is free and open to the public.

A $5 donation supports Clockshop to continue free public programming and artist commissions. Thank you!
