Description

Latino Theater Company and Playwrights’ Arena present an epic WWII play. Inspired by the true-life experiences of Ralph J. Preiss, Mix-Mix tells the coming-of-age tale of 13-year-old Rudy Preissman, who escapes Nazi Germany at the age of nine with his family to find safety in the Philippines. Their tropical refuge is upended when Japan invades the islands, forcing the family and their Filipino friends to hide in the heights and depths of sacred Mount Banahao.

Enjoy a free reading of our Theatre for Youth show “When Yuri Met Malcolm” written by Rosie Narasaki and directed by John Miyasaki. Told through the prism of her unlikely friendship with Malcolm X, When Yuri Met Malcolm explores the legacy of Yuri Kochiyama. We follow Yuri’s life from her “red, white, and blue” days in the Japanese American internment camps, to her rapid radicalization during the civil rights movement, to all her activism that followed through the decades. What does it mean to be a citizen of our flawed, flawed country? And how much can a single person do to change it? This event is FREE. Appropriate for ages 12 and up. Study guide available in both English and Spanish on our website.
