The City of Los Angeles (COLA) Individual Artist Fellowship by the DCA (Department of Cultural Affairs) allows accomplished artists to create new work with increased freedom to innovate and experiment in the disciplines of design, visual arts, literary arts, and performing arts.

Grand Performances presents live showcases by 2024 COLA Artist Fellows Sehba Sarwar, Dorian Wood, Gina Loring, Chris Wabich, and Jay Carlon.

 

In her first solo museum exhibition in the US, We Are Extraterrestrial, Alice Wang showcases recent prints, glass sculptures, newly commissioned ceramic sculptures, film, and an artist’s book that reflect the artist’s deep curiosity for the space between the real and the imaginary.

Rubén Esparza’s Untitled (flag) series challenges the symbolic meaning of the American flag and questions the sociopolitical history that has made it recognizable globally. A symbol of the American dream for some, and capitalist imperialism for others, the history of the American flag is fraught and complicated.

Create fun memories during summer vacation with a free tour of The Music Center’s sprawling campus. The 90-minute tours encompass The Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Ahmanson Theatre, Mark Taper Forum, and Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Refashioning presents two project spaces from transdisciplinary artists and fashion designers: Concept Foreign Garments New York (CFGNY) and Wataru Tominaga. Featuring garments, accessories, and textile works, the exhibition examines the ways in which these two practices—one based in New York, the other in Tokyo—challenge preconceived notions of gender and identity and, in particular, what the artists describe as “vaguely Asian” aesthetics.

The room is completely covered with mirrors and lights. As the multitude of lights reflect, they accumulate and expand exponentially. This sense of infinity has been with the artist from the beginning, always looking for more precise ways to express itself. ONE Archive at USC Libraries and LA as Subject are excited to announce the debut of Hidden Histories: Discovering Los Angeles’ LGBTQ+ Collections. Hidden Histories aims to create a centralized resource of LGBTQ+ archival material for researchers and community members.  A generous grant from the California State funds this project Library.
