The Leimert Park Artwalk is a monthly public celebration of Art, Music, Cinema, and History. The Artwalk takes place the last Sunday of each month in Leimert Park Village, the cultural hub of the Black arts community. This event features food, gift shops, free movies children’s art making, a variety of music such as Pop, Jazz R&B, Hip Hop, and spoken word, as well as a continuous African Drum Circle in scenic Leimert Park. It also includes Phantom gallery displays of known and emerging visual artists

Description

Arroyo Art Collective presents What Do You See – What Do You Hear, a collaboration of dance and musical instrument, set within the Audubon Center at Debs Park compound. Over the course of four days and 16 performances, musicians are asked to interpret their dance partner, while dancers respond and contribute to the music so that each elevates the other’s art.

 

This improvisational and alternating dance and music performances accompanied by workshops open to the general public. All events are family friendly and free. April 28th, May 11th, May 18th, and May 19th.

 

There is free parking available in the Audubon Center lot onsite, however spots fill up quickly. If the lot is full, please park along Griffin Ave. and walk up to the Center.

Approximately 25 certified California farms, live entertainment, activities, and Main Street based retail vendors present a vibrant atmosphere where locals and visitors alike shop and spend the morning with friends and family.  

This market was established in 1995 and is a collaboration with the Main Street Business Improvement Association, Ocean Park resident group, the Victorian and the Heritage Museum.  Approximately 40 certified California farms, live entertainment, activities, and Main Street based retail vendors present a vibrant atmosphere where locals and visitors shop and spent the morning with friends and family.

The Main Street market is open Sundays from 8:30am to 1:30pm, rain or shine, and may be closed for selected holidays.

All four markets accept Cal Fresh EBT and WIC-Farmers Market Nutrition Program checks.

The Sunday Main Street and Saturday Pico markets also provide a Market Match program for Cal Fresh EBT customers.  Market Match is California’s healthy food incentive program that matches customers’ CalFresh nutrition assistance benefits at farmers markets.  The Main Street Market (in partnership with ARP) matches up to $20 and the Pico Market Match Program (in partnership with Hunger Action Los Angeles) matches up to $15 for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Stories of Sugar Hill presented by Friends Of Residential Treasures: Los Angeles

Map and guidebook available for download on February 13, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. for FREE!

Stories of Sugar Hill is a seven-stop self-guided Trail map accompanied by  in-depth research that celebrates the influential legends, icons, and trailblazers of West Adams’ Black history.

This project supports the neighborhood’s efforts in collecting, archiving, and sharing the stories of West Adams by working with residents of the area.

The experience is told through the neighborhood’s historic and unique architecture and is led by narrative accounts and reflections of the residents themselves.

 

The accompanying map and research will be accessible for download on February 13, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. on the FORT website.

Participants can log onto the FORT website and download the material for FREE, and take the self-guided tour at their leisure.
