This Japanese garden features a light hill-scape, pond, cascading 25-foot waterfall, and a formal teahouse designed by Kinzuchi Fujii. The garden is considered by many to be a masterwork, demonstrating the adaptability of Japanese culture in modern America.

Celebrating a diverse mix of art, architecture, and history of the Arroyo Seco area, MOTA Day features six unique history-based museums that preserve and perpetuate early Los Angeles life.  The public can visit one or all of the museums during the day at no charge.

 

MOTA museum participants for 2025 include The Gamble House, Heritage Square Museum, the Los Angeles Police Museum, the Lummis Home, the Pasadena Museum of History, and South Pasadena Historical Museum. Visit the website for addresses.

This mural celebrates the journeys that diasporic communities have undertaken when leaving their homelands to find new places to nest. Muralist Dave Young Kim’s work imagines over 30 birds traveling together in harmonious flight. Each bird pictured here is an official national bird from Asia and the Pacific Islands, representing the diverse communities who now call Southern California home.
