The Acadmy Museum presents the Film Series Beware the Elements! Natural Disasters on Film
Following a summer of record-breaking heatwaves, extreme wildfires, historic floods, and a truly unprecedented “hurriquake,” we find the perilous realities of climate change increasingly impacting our daily lives. This screening series considers natural disasters through our planet’s primary elements—earth, wind, water, and fire—and seeks to highlight key moments in the history of the disaster film genre as a source of entertainment and portrayal of science, and as a tool to raise our collective consciousness about science-based solutions to the mounting global climate crisis.Click the here to see the featured films selected for this series.
The film series runs between January 4th to January 28, 2024.
As part of the Native Voices Playwrights festival, we presentFeast for the Dead by Madeline Easley.
After the fall of the Indian Child Welfare Act in the days leading up to the zombie apocalypse, Kay was illegally adopted out of her Tribe by a wealthy family who then abandoned her when they escaped the carnage by sea. Seven years later, Kay is a thriving citizen of a Confederacy of Tribes who took over governance of Turtle Island after the settler government fell. Just as suddenly as they appeared, the zombies disintegrated, and the one percent returned from the sea, ready to re-colonize. The only solution? Revive the centuries-old, Huron-Wendat tradition of holding a Feast for the Dead.
