Description

This exhibit is our land acknowledgment practiced in a ceremony between Indigenous artists (Tongva & Pasifika) of the salt water. Humans have the responsibility and obligation to take care of and be part of the whole of nature. “It’s important for people to know that these are not gestural acts but a tradition of Indigenous communities sharing and extending respect, honor, and spirit.” – Cindi Alvitre, Tongva guest curator and artist.

This session will give an overview of Chinese genealogy books (also known as zupu or jiapu): what they are, how they can be used in your Chinese family history research, and how to search for yours inside the My China Roots database. Using samples from the database, Clotilde Yap will present the main sections of a typical zupu, how to locate your ancestor’s name, and how to extract your lineage from a zupu. On the day and time of the event, go to the website (YouTube channel). Sign in with a free YouTube account if you would like to ask questions during the live event.
