L.A. Chinatown Firecracker Run Committee, Inc. (LACFRC) are a non-salaried group of volunteers who donate their time and energy to organize and stage events and programs; promoting health, fitness, and cultural awareness to the greater Los Angeles community.

All proceeds are reinvested in the community, in support of elementary schools and non-profit organizations, providing service and programs that benefit local neighborhoods.

Firecracker is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Love, LAMAG: Art Talks on Open Call: Apophenia

The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery presents Love, LAMAG, an annual program celebrating the gallery’s dedication to contemporary art since 1945. This year Love, LAMAG is a series of art talks led by LAMAG staff on Open Call: Apophenia, a non-juried exhibition featuring youth, students, professional, and non-professional artists to present their artwork side by side. The art talks are free, insightful, and short discussions on the beloved exhibition format, themes, and participating artists. The series culminates with an extended invitation to all Open Call participants to join LAMAG staff in the gallery on March 16th to celebrate the end of the exhibition.

DCA’s Performing Arts Division is delighted to present the Second Annual Lunar New Year Celebration beginning February 3 to March 3, 2024. Launched in 2023, the Lunar New Year Celebration program expands this year to nine events. The festivities include Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese culturally-specific events across the City of Los Angeles. Celebratory performances include cultural dance, food and arts festivals, film screenings, street fairs, parades, story-telling, and spoken-word. We invite you, your family, and friends to participate in these joyous community gatherings.This year’s Lunar New Year events are as follows:

10th Annual Port of Los Angeles Lunar New Year Celebration

Using the annual Black History theme, high school students write and orate an original essay. The students are encouraged to think deeply and broadly about the subject, focusing on the impact of the theme on past, present and future Black society. The young people are offered coaching and support over the weeks leading up to the competition. This year’s Association for the Study of African American Life and History national theme is African Americans and the Arts. At this event, finalists present their orations in six minutes to a panel of judges. They are scored on content, presentation, and persuasion. Students receive cash and other prizes. The DCA Evening Webinar Series for Arts Workers, in partnership with Arts for LA, is an opportunity for the local arts and cultural community to build networks through listening, learning, and exchanging insights. This year, the program comprises six cohorts.

These evening exchanges offer opportunities for attendees to ask questions, share comments or recommendations, and interact at the end of the sessions. If interested, local artists and arts workers are welcome and encouraged to join multiple cohorts throughout the course of the series.

These meetings (starting at or after 6:00 p.m. PST) are virtual and held on regular intervals (monthly or biweekly) to encourage consistent enrollment, continuous participation, and evolving benefits. lease note that all the cohort meetings will be recorded.

LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes and The Practice of Freedom Conversation Series: AbsolutamenteNegro/a/x – Absolutely Black host one of a series of 10 conversations taking place in cities across the United States and in Puerto Rico, from November 2023 through the end of 2024.

  

This conversation will focus on racism and colorism in Latinidad, especially in Los Angeles. The controversial comments made by LA City Council members in October 2022 sparked the idea for the series as issues of racism and colorism within the spaces of educational institutions and the arts will be explored in the Plática.  Guest speakers include author, novelist, and journalist Hector Tobar; clinical social work/therapist, Davis Rodriguez Melendez, director of Afro-Latino Education and Arts Collective (ALEAC) cultural educator and activist, Shay Cruz, and documentarian Ebony Bailey.
